Dow and S.&P. 500 Both Fall 3.4 Percent
The Dow Jones industrial average on Monday reached lows not
seen since 1997, closing down 3.4 percent or about 250
points. The broader Standard & Poor 500-Stock index also fell
about 3.4 percent. Making matters worse, worries about a
fall-off in business and consumer spending on technology hurt
the biggest names in the technology sector. The Nasdaq closed
down 3.7 percent.
