Santander to pay Madoff trustee $235m
Santander has reached a settlement with the trustee representing the estate of Bernard Madoff, agreeing to pay $235m to resolve claims against two of the Spanish bank's hedge funds, managed by Optimal Investment Services, according to a statement on Tuesday from the trustee, Irving Picard.

The settlement is Mr Picard's first big victory in his quest to get banking partners of Mr Madoff to pay up after the revelation last year that Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities was nothing more than a "ponzi scheme".
