Dow Drops Nearly 300 Points; S.&P. Down 4.5%
The Dow Jones industrial average closed down 297.81 points,
or 3.7 percent, to 7,552.60, while the broader Standard &
Poor's 500-stock index dropped 37.67 points, or 4.5 percent,
to 789.17. The Nasdaq fell 4.1 percent to 1,470.66.
