Darling sees 3.5% contraction this year
Alistair Darling, chancellor, said that the British economy would start growing again by the end of 2009 as he began delivering his Budget speech for 2009-10.

He forecasted the UK economy would contract by 3.5 per cent in 2009. But he expected "growth to resume towards the end of the year".
