Darling reduces RBS staff bonuses
Cash bonuses at Royal Bank of Scotland will be cut from the £2.5bn paid last year to about £335m this year, Alistair Darling, the chancellor, announced on Tuesday.

The government hopes the announcement will help to calm the political furore over rewards going to staff at banks bailed out by the taxpayer.

Ministers have exercised their right of veto over bonuses paid by Royal Bank of Scotland, which is 68 per cent state-owned, to try to minimise the headline total while retaining valued staff.
