Meg Whitman, Former eBay Chief, Wins Calif. G.O.P. Primary for Governor, A.P. Says
Meg Whitman, the former chief executive of eBay and a
billionaire, won the Republican primary for governor in
California on Tuesday night, The Associated Press projected.
Ms. Whitman, who invested a small share of her personal
fortune into the campaign, defeated Steve Poizner, the state
insurance commissioner, who put up $24 million of his own
money. She moves on to challenge Jerry Brown, the state's
attorney general, a Democrat who was first elected governor
of California three decades ago.
