Strong Rally on Wall Street Pushes Major Indexes Up 4%
In what one analyst called a collective sigh of relief,
traders bid stocks up sharply on Monday after news over the
weekend of a huge package of measures by central banks to
ease the debt crisis in Europe.
The S.&P. 500 index and Nasdaq composite were both up well
over 4 percent for the day, making most of their gains in the
first hour of trading. The Dow industrials gained 404.71
points or 3.9 percent to close at 10,785.14 in preliminary
figures.
