L.I. Teenager Guilty of Manslaughter in Fatal Stabbing of Immigrant

Jeffrey Conroy, the Long Island teenager accused of stabbing
and killing an Ecuadorean immigrant, Marcelo Lucero, in a
racially motivated attack, was convicted on Monday of
manslaughter as a hate crime.

After four days of deliberations, the jury also found Mr.
Conroy guilty of attempted assaults on three other Hispanic
men.

He was acquitted of the most serious of the 20 charges
against him, second-degree murder as a hate crime, which
could have meant life in prison. Mr. Conroy, 19, faces a
minimum of eight years and a maximum of 25 years when he is
sentenced on May 26.
