Democrats Seeking to Push Senate Health Bill Through House

The White House and Democratic Congressional leaders,
scrambling for a backup plan to rescue their health care
legislation if Republicans win the special election in
Massachusetts on Tuesday, are preparing to ask House
Democrats to approve the Senate version of the bill, which
would send the measure directly to President Obama for his
signature.

Former Presidents George W. Bush and Bill Clinton to Lead Haitian Relief Fund

Former Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush have been
asked by President Obama to lead a relief effort to aid
Haiti's earthquake victims.

At times of great challenge, "Americans have always come
together," Mr. Obama said, with Bush and Clinton at his side.
"Responding to disaster must be the work of all of us."

The two former presidents announced the Clinton Bush Haiti
Fund to help raise money for Haitians suffering from the
devastating earthquake that struck Jan. 12. A Web site is at
www.clintonbushhaitifund.org.

Pentagon Report on Fort Hood Shooting Details Failures

Calling the military's defenses against threats from within
its ranks outdated and ineffective, Defense Secretary Robert
M. Gates said that the Army mishandled warnings about the
poor performance and radical views of Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan,
the military psychiatrist accused of killing 13 people in a
shooting spree at Fort Hood, Texas, on Nov. 5. Several
officers who supervised Major Hasan during his psychiatric
training in the Washington area may be disciplined, he said.

officials familiar with the talks.
